Silicon-based electrodes formulation in buffered solution for enhanced electrode-electrolyte interfaces

Silicon nanoparticles based composite electrodes for Li-ion batteries reach high specific capacities and enhance cyclability compared with larger silicon particles. Such are foreseen the next generation (LiB). Playing on binder conductive additives in formulation of Si is a well-known strategy to performance. Aqueous electrode formulations using carboxymethyl cellulose as environmentally friendly has already showed great enhancements, especially when employed acidic conditions. In this study, pH = 1, 3 7 buffered solutions were studied solvent prepare Si/C/CMC electrodes. The influence components interactions followed through combined ATR-FTIR/XPS experiment discussed relation electrochemical Interestingly, solution show increased capacity retention coulombic efficiency during 100 cycles obtained Post mortem analysis EIS study highlighted differences electrode/current collector (CC) adhesion SEI deposition.
